Stevenson Project

Welcome to the Stevenson Project web site1

This project was dedicated to finding the correct parents of William, The Preacher, Stevenson and his Brothers James and Hugh. With DNA we have found their parents to be Thomas and Mary Stephenson, grandparents David and Jane Stephenson. Thomas, David, and Jane were immigrants from Ireland. It is to be a common repository for information on their descendants and ancestors.

These brothers were born in South Carolina and were in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas before settling in Louisiana.

Much of the information on The Preacher comes from a book “William Stevenson, Riding Preacher” by Walter N Vernon, although parts of this book have proved incorrect. Information also came from William's autobiography.

DNA has proven that this William is not related to the Stevenson’s in North Carolina. Research has been done by the owner of this website Gordon Stevenson, son of Ollie Joe Stevenson.

It was thought (an proven with DNA) that five brothers came from Ireland to Virginia around 1735. They were David, John, Robert, William, and Thomas. All of these families have NOT been completeley researched as we concentrated on our bunch that went to South Carolina.
